James F. Slyman, MD, FAAO

James F. Slyman, MD has 44 years of experience in medical and surgical ophthalmology. He earned his medical degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He then completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama, and a surgical residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Alabama Eye Foundation Hospital. Prior to medical school, Dr. Slyman attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, earned a perfect 4.0 in his major, and received departmental honors. There, he majored in Chinese Languages and Literature, and minored in Russian, Chemistry, and East Asian Political Science.

Dr. Slyman founded Davidson Eye Associates in 1981. Under his leadership, Davidson Eye Associates became the premiere practice in eye care in this region. In 2024, he joined the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Eye Center Lexington. where he continues to provide general and specialty Ophthalmology care for adults and children today.
